Songs of the week #8

Via here
I think we need to hear a song from New Zealand's 4th most popular folk parody duo.

Via Broken Blossoms

Laura Marling performing Goodbye England (Covered in Snow)
I have never been in proper snow so I can't relate, but the song does make me want a snowy Christmas.
Anyway enjoy the tune, I recently came across her after watching Jools Holland and have since been obsessed. Its nice to hear a new artist who's supremely talented (she is only twenty one! yikes she sounds so much older, in a good way). She has already released two albums, her first was Alas I cannot Swim, and this song is from her latest one: I speak because I can. Every new generation needs a good new folk artist that's what I always say!

It may seem strange having this song in the same post as Albi the Racist Dragon, but I don't care.. just think of it as the best of Comedy folk, and Serious folk lol (trying not to sound like a major idiot). All I listen to right now is folkin' folk music.
:D

I also like her music, "I speak because I can" was a good album from last year, I'll be blogging some tracks by her soon ( :

And in a couple of months, I'll post my top 100 songs of 2010 (those Laura Marling tracks included)

awesome, she is good, but I cant understand why it took me so long to know who she is! lol. hmm I just heard her cover of Neil Young's "the needle and the damage done" - simply beautiful, (young's is still better though of course)

Yeah, I only stumbled upon her a few months ago. Thanks for suggesting the N. Young cover, just curious, do you think Laura Marling is better live?

Her voice comes across as a little more personal to me live, at least on that video you shared here.

ditto I agree, I haven't heard her live that much expect for on the Jools Holland show, yeah talented musicians always sound much more personal live and its a treat to be able to hear them thanks largely to youtube, but I enjoy listening to her live or recorded! :)
